The FunDa Method

The FunDa Method: Indian dance fitness made for real women

FunDa = Fun + Dance. It is the method Dr. Jyoti Srivastava created for women who want to get fit at home, with music, household props and the food they already cook.

Why FunDa exists

On 4 June 2018, after her weight had gone from 50 to 75 kg following her daughter’s birth, Jyoti decided she wanted her life back. She began working out at home, and soon started training women from her neighbourhood.

She noticed that popular dance workouts and gym routines weren’t designed for typical Indian bodies, homes or schedules. It took her a year of classes to shape a new, Indian recipe of fun and dance: FunDa. When the 2020 lockdown arrived, FunDa moved online with one laptop and one Zoom call, and it has been growing ever since.

The FunDa Method

The four pillars of FunDa

  1. Fun first: dance you enjoy

FunDa means Fun + Dance. Workouts are set to music with easy-to-follow Indian dance moves, so exercise feels like something you look forward to.

  2. Ghar ki cheezein as equipment

No gym and nothing to buy. Every class uses things already at home: a chair, a stick or wiper, a ball, a dupatta and a water bottle.

  3. Ghar ka khana, not crash diets

Roti, dal and rice stay. The focus is on balanced portions of the Indian home food your family already eats.

  4. A women-only sisterhood

Live classes with women like you: no judgement, lots of encouragement, and a community that keeps you showing up.

FAQ

About the FunDa Method

What does FunDa stand for?

FunDa means Fun + Dance. It is an Indian dance-fitness method created by Dr. Jyoti Srivastava for women’s real bodies and busy days.

How is FunDa different from Zumba or gym workouts?

FunDa uses easy Indian dance moves and household props instead of gym machines, and it is taught live in a women-only group. Dr. Jyoti created it after finding that typical routines didn’t suit most Indian women’s bodies, routines or comfort levels.

Do I need to know how to dance?

Not at all. The moves are simple and repeated, and beginners are welcome. If you can clap, you can do FunDa!

What do I need for a class?

A little space, a phone or laptop with Zoom, and the prop of the day: a chair, a stick or wiper, a ball or cushion, a dupatta, or water bottles.
